An ALS diagnosis can bring uncertainty, questions and new challenges for you and the people who care for you. Having the right team around you can make a difference. At Temple’s MDA/ALS Center of Hope, care is designed to bring that team together. At each visit, you and your caregivers meet with a multidisciplinary team that includes neurologists, a clinical nurse coordinator, a mental health specialist, an occupational therapist, a physical therapist, a speech/language pathologist, a nutritionist, a respiratory therapist and a patient services coordinator. Together, they address the changing needs of people living with ALS and muscular dystrophies and provide individualized, comprehensive care. If you or someone you care for is living with ALS or a muscular dystrophy, schedule an appointment.

Rather than sending you to separate appointments, we bring the team to you. In a single visit you meet with the specialists who manage the different ways ALS affects daily life, from breathing and swallowing to mobility, nutrition and emotional health. Your caregivers are included, because ALS affects the whole household. This multidisciplinary model is the standard of care for ALS, and it exists to make life a little bit easier.
Yes. The Temple MDA/ALS Center of Hope is committed to advancing ALS treatment and offers access to clinical trials of new medications, as well as observational studies that help physicians better understand the disease. Temple physicians have led national trials in ALS. Whether a trial is right for you depends on your diagnosis, where you are in the disease and the specific study, and our team will walk you through what is open and what participation would involve.
