THE EXPERTISE YOU NEED

Pulmonary hypertension is a complex, life-threatening disease that requires the highest level of medical care. We have helped many patients reclaim the lives they want to live. Our program offers:

  • Designation as a Pulmonary Hypertension Association Center of Comprehensive Care. This designation means that the Temple program offers the highest standard of patient care for all forms of pulmonary hypertension.
  • Team of cardiologists whose only focus is diagnosing and treating pulmonary hypertension. This singular focus gives them deep insight into the disease, allowing our PH specialists to more quickly diagnose you, begin your treatment sooner and achieve better outcomes.
  • Dedicated team of support staff who help remove barriers to care so that patients can begin treatment as quickly as possible.

TREATMENTS OFFERED

New medical and surgical treatments have improved the outlook for patients with all forms of PH. While there is still no cure, there are options that can potentially slow or stop the progression of the disease or ease its symptoms. It’s critical that patients are seen by a specialized medical team that is trained and experienced in treating pulmonary hypertension.

Temple cardiologists offer the following treatment options:

  • Therapies to manage the condition and help with symptom relief, including diuretics, anticoagulation, supplemental oxygen, and lifestyle counseling that addresses diet and exercise.
  • Improved medical management of underlying conditions that may help ease the symptoms of pulmonary hypertension.
  • Medication management to help slow or reverse pulmonary hypertension by opening the arteries in the lungs, reducing heart failure, increasing blood flow and improving breathing. Therapies may include oral medications, inhaled therapies or pump-infused therapies (intravenous or subcutaneous). Often, Temple’ specialists recommend a combination of therapies.
  • Surgery that can include transplant (heart, lung or heart/lung), mechanical circulatory support (heart pump), or for patients with CTEPH, a complex surgery called pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) or procedure called balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA).
