Many people with asthma can keep it under control with medications, inhalers and avoiding triggers. But if you cannot control your condition that way, Temple has more treatment options to help reduce your symptoms and flare-ups.
Bronchial Thermoplasty
This minimally invasive procedure opens airways so that you can breathe better. During bronchial thermoplasty, thermal energy is delivered in a small tube with a camera that passes through the windpipe to the smooth muscles that line your airways.
Bronchial thermoplasty has been proven to reduce the frequency and severity of attacks for patients whose asthma cannot be managed by the most aggressive inhaler or oral medications. Patients undergo 3 treatment sessions and may experience benefits lasting over 5 years. Our pulmonologists were the first in the Philadelphia area to perform bronchial thermoplasty.
Biologic Therapies
Biologics are therapies that are used to treat many conditions, including lung disorders like asthma. Specifically, biologics target the cells causing asthma attacks. This treatment can help make your asthma attacks less severe or even help to prevent them in the first place.
