YOUR HEALTH, YOUR FUTURE: WHY CHEST SCREENINGS MATTER

Taking care of your health means staying ahead of potential problems before they start. If you’ve ever worried about your lung or heart health—whether for yourself or a loved one—you’re not alone.

Much like a mammogram or colonoscopy, chest screenings detect issues early, when they are most treatable. The Temple Healthy Chest Initiative makes it easy to take control of your health with a quick scan that can uncover signs of lung disease, heart conditions, and more—often before symptoms appear. Scheduling a screening for early detection is a powerful step toward protecting your future.

HELPING YOU STAY MORE IN CONTROL OF YOUR CHEST HEALTH

The Temple Healthy Chest Initiative uses a special type of scan called a low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scan to detect lung nodules, conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), coronary artery calcification and other heart diseases, sleep apnea, problems in the esophagus, and more. This means one simple, 10 minute screening can give you a clearer picture of your overall chest health.

Chest screenings can also detect signs of cancer and other conditions early, helping more and more patients live longer lives.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE SCREENING PROCESS

As part of the Temple Healthy Chest Initiative, we are encouraging eligible patients to get screened as early as possible to detect any warning signs of disease. Please watch this video to learn more about our lung screening process, who is eligible and why it’s important to take the next step to get screened.

CHECK IF YOU'RE ELIGIBLE FOR A LUNG SCREENING

You may be eligible to receive a healthy chest screening if you:

  • Are between the ages of 50–80
  • Currently smoke or quit smoking within the last 15 years
  • Have a history of 20 pack years of smoking (the number of years smoked multiplied by the average number of packs per day smoked)
