Spinal problems can cause severe pain and greatly reduce mobility, strength and quality of life. Temple Orthopaedics offers specialized care to correct a wide range of issues affecting the spine. Temple’s experienced orthopaedic medical team works with patients to provide the greatest benefit using the least invasive approach.

Because spinal problems are notoriously difficult to properly diagnose, treatment can be challenging. Temple offers both the clinical experience and the technological capabilities necessary to determine the cause of spine pain or weakness.

TREATMENT OPTIONS

Treatment options for spine conditions are made on a case-by-case basis and depend on how much pain a patient is in. Spine treatments offered at Temple include:

  • Medical therapy: The first line of treatment for patients experiencing back problems is often medication, such as nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory medications or analgesics. In cases where pain is severe, targeted medications or steroid injections can be offered.
  • Physical therapy: Most patients with back pain experience some degree of pain relief and improved function from physical therapy. In addition to reducing pain, physical therapy can increase mobility and teach the patient how to prevent future back problems by using proper body mechanics.
  • Surgery: When surgery is required, Temple’s orthopaedic surgeons strive to use the least invasive approaches possible, including arthroscopic surgery to help reduce post-operative pain, length of hospitalization and recovery time.
